Dear Cayuse Prairie Families,
Welcome to the 2026–27 school year. I am honored to begin my first year as your Superintendent/Principal, and I could not be more excited to serve this community.
Though I am new to this role, I am not new to the Flathead Valley. My family and I have called this valley home for fourteen years. I have spent seventeen years in education, including nine as an instructional coach, and my heart has always been in helping teachers do their best work so students can do theirs. Cayuse Prairie's mission, Rising Up to Make a Difference, is exactly the kind of work I want to be part of.
Our theme this year is Strong Roots, Strong Growth. It fits this place. Cayuse Prairie has deep roots as a small rural school where teachers know every student by name and families are true partners. My job is to protect what makes this school special while helping it keep growing.
I am also thrilled to welcome Ms. Paxton Doty as our new Assistant Principal. She brings eight years in education and a genuine love for this valley. Together we are committed to being visible, approachable and present in classrooms every day.
One more invitation. Our theme this year is Strong Roots, Strong Growth, and growth starts with noticing what is already thriving. When you see a student, staff member or neighbor who makes a positive difference and keeps our community thriving, share it. Reach out to Ms. Bortz with a shout out. Small schools grow strongest when we celebrate each other, and I hope we hear a lot of shout outs this year.
My door is open. If you have a question, a concern or just want to introduce yourself, please stop by or reach out. I look forward to meeting you at drop off, at games and at every event in between.
Go Mustangs!
Warmly,
Christy Bortz
Superintendent and Principal
